Reach Out for Kids
April 1, 2007
New Phil's 2007 Annual Gala Pops Concert & Auction was a collaborative and fantastic event!
Partnering with Autism Speaks and
Classical 99.5 WCRB, the New Phil hosted a
wonderful event complete with an exciting Pops performance, fun silent and live auctions,
and great food and drink, all to benefit the New Phil's
Outreach & Education Programs
and Autism Speaks.
That evening the New Phil honored two very important people in the community music and autism world.
The honorees were Anthony Totaro, President & Founder of Boston Organ & Piano and
Marjorie Woolf Pascetta, founder of the New England chapter of the National Alliance for Autism Research (now consolidated with Autism Speaks).
Special guest artists joined the celebration as well. The Winiker Band,
led by musician brothers Bo & Bill kicked the performance into jazzy gear along with
autistic and blind pianist Tony DeBlois.
Tony was featured in his symphony orchestra debut, performing Gershwin's great Rhapsody in Blue.
Young musicians from the
New Phil/John Hancock Music Discovery Program also joined the orchestra for a side-by-side
performance of Pachelbel's Canon in D. The students showed off their skills and contributed
great talent to a wonderful evening!
