Aaron Wolff, cello
Seventeen-year-old Aaron Wolff, cello, a student of Natasha Brofsky at the New England Conservatory, won First Prize in the Boston Symphony Concerto Competition (2010) and has been featured on the radio show From the Top (2009). Other competitions have led to performances with the chamber orchestra A Far Cry and the Boston Trio. After early studies at the Preparatory Division of the Royal Academy of Music (London), Wolff has spent summers studying and performing at the Aspen Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival and Greenwood Music Camp. A lead actor in the Coen brothers’ film A Serious Man, an Oscar-nominee for best film of 2009, Wolff and the film’s ensemble cast, along with Joel and Ethan Coen, won the Robert Altman Award of the Independent Spirit Awards (2010). A senior at Newton South High School, Wolff is the music director and arranger for the Newtones, the school’s a cappella singing group. At the New England Region 2012 International Championship of High School A Cappella, Wolff won an award for Best Arrangement, that of a Beatles medley and the hip-hop tune “Hey Ya.”
