Francesca Bass, violin
A winner of local and international string competitions, Ms. Bass studies violin at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and is concertmaster of the Youth Symphony there. Her current teacher is Anait Arutunian, also a Brookline resident; she began her violin studies at age 4 with Lilia Muchnik. She has appeared with the New England String Ensemble at Jordan Hall, with Yo-Yo Ma and Lynn Chang for the Deval Patrick gubernatorial inauguration, and with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in a program of Latin and Celtic music. Her talent comes naturally: her mother is a Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist and her father is a pianist on the Boston Conservatory faculty.
Lev Mamuya, cello
Mr. Mamuya gave his first solo recital at age five, has been an avid chamber musician since the age of six, and appeared as a soloist with the Cape Cod Symphony at age eight. He won the Newton Symphony concerto competition in 2007. In 2008, he appeared as a soloist on the PBS radio show "From the Top" as well as on the TV program "From the Top at Carnegie Hall." In addition to enjoying his appearances as a soloist, he plays in two string quartets and relishes opportunities to perform outreach concerts in schools and nursing homes. In his free time, Lev enjoys reading, hiking, playing video games and playing sports, particularly basketball; he is a fervent Boston sports fan.
