New Philharmonia Orchestra Manny Abrams Dedicated Service Award

This award will be given from time to time to honor service to the orchestra and to community music making. It will be presented to an orchestra player whose dedicated and passionate commitment to the New Philharmonia is consistent with that of its first recipient, Manny Abrams. Congratulations Manny for your dedicated life of more than 35 years in community orchestras.

Judith and Allen Weltz Community Service Award

10th Anniversary season winners of the Judith and Allen Weltz Community Service Award: Bernhard Metzger, Karen Zander, Corinne Chan, Win Carus.

This award is given from time to time to honor the service to our cultural community as exemplified by the 30 years of devoted hard work and service to the Newton cultural community by Judy and Allen. Judy and Allen were the recipients of the first award in 1999. This year we presented this award to two very special New Philharmonia couples. These people have served the orchestra in an extraordinary volunteer capacity beyond their commitment – 3 of them – as players, since the inception of the orchestra. Karen Zander, Bernhard Metzger, Corinne Chan and Win Carus have given tirelessly to many NPO efforts including amongst them all – as board members, chairing the special events committee, the family fun fair, librarian, special computer applications and assistance and in a myriad of other ways.

These awards were given to salute the volunteer efforts of a number of people who have dedicated many hours to tireless work for the orchestra. Our small but dedicated volunteer pool has helped the New Phil through thick and thin and we are all most grateful for what they have done. Recipients include Ida Fridmann, Josee Erlandson, Barbara Handel, Barbara Freer, Aline Manna - all for their extraordinary efforts on the Special Events Committee, Bob Moffett from our horn section whose leadership and energy setting up and striking rehearsal and concert set-ups has helped so much to keep things running smoothly and to Bruce Falby and Leila Blaylock for their tireless leadership and service to the New Phil.
